STANDARDS FOR THE PROTECTION OF MINORS

ABBREVIATED VERSION – FOR CHILDREN AND PARENTS

KOSTOVGYMNASTICS GYMNASTICS ACADEMY

CHILD PROTECTION STANDARDS

1. Your Safety Is Our Priority

At Kostovgymnastics Gymnastics Academy, we want every child to feel:

  • safe,

  • respected,

  • accepted,

  • listened to,

  • comfortable during training.

Every child has the right to learn and develop their skills in an atmosphere of respect and safety.

2. How Should an Instructor Behave?

The instructor:

  • treats every child with respect;

  • speaks to children in a polite and appropriate manner;

  • helps children develop their skills;

  • ensures safety during exercises;

  • adapts exercises to the age and ability level of the participants;

  • provides physical support/spotting when necessary;

  • respects the child’s personal boundaries;

  • responds when a child is being harmed.

The instructor must not:

  • hit or push a child;

  • mock or humiliate a child;

  • frighten a child;

  • insult a child;

  • deliberately embarrass a child;

  • use violence;

  • behave towards a child in a sexual or inappropriate manner.

  •

3. Physical Contact During Gymnastics

Gymnastics and acrobatics sometimes require physical contact.

An instructor may touch a child when it is necessary:

  • for spotting and safety;

  • to prevent a fall;

  • to assist with performing an exercise;

  • to teach a gymnastics element correctly.

Physical contact must always be safe, professional and related to the training session.

If something makes you feel uncomfortable, you can say:

“I don’t want this,” “Please stop,” or “I feel uncomfortable.”

Your voice matters.

4. You Have the Right to Say “NO”

Every child has the right to say “no” if:

  • they are afraid of something;

  • something makes them feel uncomfortable;

  • they do not want to be touched;

  • they do not understand an instruction;

  • they need a break;

  • they need help.

Saying “no” does not mean that you have done anything wrong.

5. If Something Is Worrying You

If something worries you during training or in connection with the Academy’s activities, you can tell:

  • the instructor;

  • your parent or guardian;

  • the person responsible for child protection at the Academy.

You do not have to solve the problem on your own.

6. If Someone Has Hurt You

If someone:

  • hurt you;

  • frightened you;

  • insulted you;

  • touched you in a way you did not want;

  • forced you to do something;

  • asked you to keep a secret that makes you feel uncomfortable or bad,

tell someone you trust.

You can tell your parent, instructor or the person responsible for child safety.

It is never your fault.

7. Photos and Videos

Photos and video recordings may be taken during classes, demonstrations or competitions.

Photos or videos of a child may be published for the Academy’s promotional purposes only in accordance with the applicable rules and with appropriate consent, where such consent is required.

Not giving consent to the publication of a child’s image does not prevent the child from participating in classes.

We do not take photographs or make recordings in places where children have a right to privacy, such as toilets or changing areas.

8. Changing Rooms and Privacy

We respect the privacy of every child.

Children have the right to privacy when changing clothes and using the toilet.

Taking photographs or making recordings in such places is strictly prohibited.

9. Safety Rules During Training

During classes:

  • we listen to the instructor’s instructions;

  • we use sports equipment according to the instructions;

  • we do not perform dangerous exercises without the instructor’s permission;

  • we inform the instructor if we experience pain or feel unwell;

  • we take care of our own safety and the safety of others.

  •

10. Parents Also Have an Important Role

Parents and guardians should:

  • inform the Academy about important matters concerning the child’s safety;

  • respect the rules applicable during classes;

  • inform the Academy about situations that concern them;

  • support their child in developing their interests and skills.
